BAND CONTEST
WANGANUI IVINS
A GRADE CHAMPIONSHIPS. (Per Press Association—Copyright). NELSON, February 19. The Gold Challenge Cup, for the champion New Zealand A Grade Band was won by Wanganui Garrison, is the result of winning the second test to-night, with ten points in hani. Mr Palliser, President of the Bands Association, : congratulating • the winners, said that all bandsmen would be gratified to see these one-timo champions to the fore again. They had suffered reverses, hut had risen to the top again in a creditable manner. He congratulated the young conductor and Ois bandsmen on their performance. Judge 'Kerry- said he had been impressed by the A Grade performance on both nights. The standard tonight had not been quite up to the performance: in the first test, but the winning hand, from a rhythmical and a detail viewpoint, was outstanding. Their soloists especially the soprano, euphonium and cornet, were most impressive. The, work and performance of the bands in general was of a fairly, high A Grade standard.
