THE EPIDEMIC
IN CHRISTCHURCH TWO FRESH CASES. Per Press Association Copyright. CHRISTCHURCH, January 19. Tho presence of two positive cases of infantile paralysis in the Christchurch public hospital was reported today by tho District Medical Officer of Health (Dr Fletcher Telford). These are the first positive cases to occur in Christchurch. One of the patients is a boy aged 17 years. The other ease is that of a man aged 30 years. Both of the eases wero reported to the Depameat by private medical practitioner and were sent to the hospital, one last evening, and the other this morning. Tests, completed yesterday afternoon, proved that both wero positivo eases. One of tho patients, the boy, was in Invercargill for a fortnight, from December 3rd, returning to Christchurch on January 7th. The other had not been out of Christchurch. Dr Telford stated that all contacts were being checked for quarantine. No new cases, suspected or . positive, have been reported from any,other part of the district; ,i y •
SO NEW DUNEDIN CASES. DUNEDIN, January 19. A contimianefi* -of Hie position in connection with the infantile paralysis epidemic was noted to-day. when there were no new eases of infection reported either in Dunedin or in the surrounding districts. WESTPORT CASE. WESTPORT, January 19. There are no fresh developments in connection with the case in the hospital of suspected infantile paralysis. The man came overland from Dunedin to join tho Pensilva, arriving here. on Sunday. It is understood that the man had had a fall, and was suffering from the effects of concussion.
