The financial editor of the “New York Times” speculates on the real purpose of the visit of Mr Walter Rimeimaii, President of the Board of Trade, and Sir Otto Niemoyor, a director of the Bank o£. Jntenia.tiona! Settlements, and recalls the fact that Sir Otto has been active in dealing with South American debtors for England. In view of the common desire of American and British bondholders to obtain equal treatment from South American countries whose externa! loans are in default, it is thought to be quite possible that discussions on those lines will take place. He also considered it a possibility that Sir Otto Niemoyor will advise Mr Runciman on trade agreements and policies. Mr'and Mrs Runciman arrived at Boston aboard the Caledonia and came direct to New A ork by train. Mr Runeiman denied that there was any official purpose behind his visit or that it had any connection with the• •coming arrival of Sir Otto Nionioyer. They "ill go to Washington on Saturday to spend a week-end at the White House rit the invitation of .Mr Roosevelt. Mr Runciman insisted that be was here for a holiday by invitation.
