FATALITY" IN THERMAL POOL ; ■* . , ,-j • * • . .» * ■ (ROTORUA, November 3. Death From shock following sudden immersion in hot water was the verdict given by the coroner, Mr W. L. Richards, J.P., to-day at the conclusion of the inquest concerning the fatality at tlie Venus Pool in the Waiotapu reserve last Sunday morning, when, in spite of the desperate efforts of a companion, Stanley Stone, aged 55, and single, died following a dive into the hottest part of the pool.
The pool is a thermal pond commonly used for bathing, but it appeared that last Sunday it was much hotter than usir'l. Stone’s companion, Ernest Guilding, dived in after him, but, finding the water too hot, returned to the bank. He then saw that Stone was in difficulties and diving back into the pool, he dragged Stone to a cooler part, but was unable to lift him out of t l, e water, Fe therefore tied Stone b v the arm to the overhanging branch of a tree and went for help.
