STEAMER LOOTED

The looting of the steamer- Carlingford by the inhabitants of the lonely island of Arranmore, .off the Irish coast, led to a claim by the owners against Donegal County Council, resulting in£79o damages being awarded at’ Letterkenny ‘ sessions’. ■ Counsel for’ the ; owners said the officers and crew after beaching the vessel in a gale, went ashore,, after which a crowd boarded the vessel and later brought horses and carts and removed lambs, beds ( ropes, compasses doors and portions easily removable. The captain’s protests met with jeers. Counsel explained that a Greek ship was wrecked on the island some years ago, when someone bought the cargo and the islanders got nothing. They determined that this would not occur; again. ; I
