LEAGUE REPORT MANDATES COMMISSION’S VIEWS (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph-Copyright) (Received this day at 2.30 p.m.) LONDON, November 4. The Associated Press’ Geneva correspondent says the League Mandates Commission heard the report of the New Zealander ,' v Mr Berendsen) on the new policy of the Labour Government towards Samoa, of which several members of the Commission were critical on the ground that such a sudden change might be undesirable. Moreover, it was pointed out privately by the mandates authorities tnat while it may have been a good thing to release the Hon. 0. F. Nelson from gaol, i.t was not necessary to formally welcome 'him on his return to Samoa. However, the fear that the Gov-' eminent perhaps was overdoing things by a reversal of policy was not echoed by Lord' Hailey, who said that the changes were so important and far reaching. 9 It was necessary to wait and see how they worked.
Mr Berendsen explained Labour’s steps to. put their, policy in action. He also dealt with the commercial 'and political situation of the islands.
