MANUKAU SEAT
NEW MEMBER ENTERS HOUSE

WELLINGTON, October 7
With the observance of the customary formalities, the new Government member for Manukau Air A. G. Osborne) to-dav took his seat in mm House of Re presen tati vs for the »irst time. The byelection in Manukau to elect a successor to the present High Commissioner (Mr V J. Jordan) was held onlv a week ago to-day, but the speedy return of the writ enabled Mr Osborne to present hbiiself promptly as a member cf Parliament.
, At the opening of to-day’s sitting, Mr Speaker (the Hon. W. E. Barnard) read the formal declaration of Mr Osborne’s election and then the new member, accompanied by th e two Government.;'-whips—Air J. O’Brien (jWstland) and Mr A. S Richards (Roskell) —adanced to the Speaker’s chair to take the oath, and ;• übsequently to sign the records. There was applause as he was conducted to th e seat on the cross benches which he is to share with Air A. G. Hultquist (GoaT., Bay of Plenty).
