DAIRY BOARD

ANNUAL REPORT REVIEW A comprehensive survey of dairy produce matters is contained in the twelfth annual report of the New Zealand Dairy Board for the year ended July 31, 1930, the report dealing fully with changes in the control of the industry resulting from the provisions of the Primary Products Marketing Act.

The board’s statement of accounts shows that the total net levy collected on butter and cheese exported during the year was £79,290. Interest front investments reached £SOO, giving a total revenue to the board of £79,790. Cost of management at the head oflice, Wellington, was £8826, and u London £9335. Exchange on remittances to London was £9458. Expenditure on shipping supervision, etc , absorbed £13,044. Payment towards the cost of research from the industry was £7400, against £4900 in the previous year. Advertising in Great Britain required £28,548 and the total expenditure for the year was £76,832. 14 Jt- is many years since the Dominion has experienced a production season during which weather conditions have been so varied,” says the report. “A severe winter was followed by a dry early spring, with lack ol green feed in many districts. In the later spring and early summer there was plenty ol rain, but cold weather militated against production increasing as it might have done. Storms and floods were experienced in ,-everal dairy district but in Otigo and Southland there has been lack of rain for almost the whole of the season. The autumn, however, wa.s phenomenal, by reason of maintained production. Although cold spells were experienced early, tlfe abundance of feeds kept the production at a high level, and the sustained delivery of dairy produce to northern grading stores was most remarkable.”
