BRUCE BAY NOTES
(From our own Correspondent)
Mr A. A. Pullar, the local teacher, who has been transferred to East Christchurch school was met by the parents prior to his departure and presented with a hound book of Bruce Bay views, Mr McLaren, chairman of the school committee, who made the presentation spoke of the good work of Mr Pullar both as a teacher and resident of the Bay and all were sorry to see him go. Mr Richard Thompson is at present an inmate of the Grey Hospital. All sports wish him a speedy recovery and back with us all again. Mr Geo. Robertson left on a visit to IJmatoi, in the North Island. Mrs W6st was a passenger out on the plane for Wellington. Mr D. P. Stuart, manager of th Q local mill, arrived from Hokitika. last Thursday. Twenty men are expected at a.n early date per the Gael to he employed by the Public Works Department on the main south road. At last something is being done about the Jacobs river bridge. This river has always been a source of annoyance to the motorist as there is no definite ford and it is unapproachable in flood time. With this river bridged the trip north can then be made to Karangarua where tnere is a good ford and Walter Scott and his horses are there to give a helping hand.
Once again the aeroplane service has come to the for e and conveyed an infant, Master Noel Valentine, to Hokitika Hospital suffering from bronchial pneumonia. This case would have been hopeless, if conveyed overland, which would have taken eight hours compared with the plane trip of little over an hour.
No one unless those in contact with ami dependent upon these planes can appreciate the service rendered by Air Travel Ltd.
