SUNK IN SQUALL

VALUABLE AMERICAN SEAPLANE PORT AIORESBY (Papua) July 20. A valuable seaplane - belonging to the American Aluseuin of Natural History Expedition overturned and sank during a 60 miles an hour squall in Port Moresby harbour early to-day. Alenibers of the expedition were exploring the Fly River at the time, and there was no one on board the plane, which arrived from Daru yesterday. An attempt will be made to raise it. The plane, a Fairchild amphibian was valued, with equipment, at £17,000. It: arrived in Australia ,on January 28 and after being assembled at Brisbane, was flown to Daru. The expedition is led by Air Robert Archbold, with Dr. A. L. Rand as his assistant. Its object is to explore the upper reaches of the Fly River, and the ranges beyond, in search of plant, animals, and birds.
