1 OFFICIAL ACTION. NEW YORK, July 13. Charles (“Lucky”) Luciano who with eight of his associates wa:< recently convicted on 62 charges of “compulsory vice,” iis pursuing his gangster methods in jail. He and six membofrs of his “vice syndicate’’ have been moved from Sing Sing Penitentiary to widely-separated prisons throughout the country. This move has been made by the prison authorities for the purpose of breaking-up a band which they discovered was being re-organised in Sing Sing, under Luciano’s leadership. Action is also being taken to protect people who informed the? police and gave evidence against Luciano at hjs trial, some of whom have been threatened with death. Luciano has been transferred to the dreaded Danuemora prison, which is known to convicts as “Siberia.” On June If), Luciano entered Sing Sing Penitentiary to Login the sentence of from 30 to 3/5 years imposed on him on the previous bar. He had been committed of having onerated a vice ring which had brought him in £3,000,000 a year, hi s operations being concerned mainly in industrial, gambling, and narcotic rackets.
