MOTORIST’S TRIAL
DEATH OF TWO PEDESTRIANS INTOXICATED WHILE IN CHARGE DUNEDN. July 20. Tbe criminal sitting opened this morning with tbe trial of John I rancis Harris, on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor car, and with causing the deaths Joseph Rogan and Charles Nicol Stewart, with the alternative charge of negligent driving causing death. This case is the sequel to a tragedy near the Oval on May ,9, in which two men pedestrians and two women were struck by the car, the men being fatally injured. Accused pleaded not guilty. Thq evidence is proceeding on the lines of the lower court.
