HOCKEY

OTAGO DEFEAT FIJIANS (Per Press Association, Limited). DUNEDIN, July 18 Otago defeated the visiting Fijian women’s hockey team to-day by six goals to nil. Neither side played the best of hockey. Otago were penalised too frequently for offside and the visitors conceded too many penalty corners. There was an attendance of about 4000 . In the first half, Otago had the better of the play and Misses L. McNeur and H. Johnson scored. The Fiji forwards were slow and were unused to the type of ground on which they were playing. They were never dangerous, and Otago had a territorial advantage all the time. In the second half. Mis s Johnson scored again, and Miss' A. Harley added three goals. For a period the visitors attacked strongly and the Otago defence had a difficult task. Poor shooting and lack of combination, however, caused all the Fijians’ efforts to go astray. The game ended, Otago 6; Fiji nil.
