Players’ match at Lords, howling Wyatt with liis second ball, Cover began a sensational spell of 50 minutes, in which he bowled seven overs and two maidens for ten runs and four wickets. The wicket was tricky, owing to sunshine after rain. The Gentlemen's score was 6 for 22, when Holmes and Brown were associated in a vigorous stand. The wicket was’ still difficult .when the Players batted. Gimblett and Leyland were dismissed with successive halls by. the medium-last bowler, Stephenson, a young Army lieutenant, who must be seriously regarded as a candidate for Australia. Hammond hatted excellently, and his brisk partnership with Hardstaff produced 95 funs, enabling the Players to pass the Gentlemen’s total. The remainder of the innings was a triumph for Stephenson, who dismissed Hardstaff, Sinfield and McC’orkill in four halls, and Verity with the first hall of the next over. The Players were all out for 194 (Hammond 72, Hardstafi 69, Fishlock 22 not out). 1 Stephenson took 9 for 46. LANCASHIRE V. INDIA. LONDON, July 16. Lancashire, first 234 (Washbrook 52, Nutter not out 64). India, second 161 (Merchant not out 77, Hopwood 5 for 9). Lancashire in the second innings made 114, C. K. Naidu 6 for 46.
