PUT IN IRONS
DRUNKEN MEMBERS OF CREW. PERTH, June 9. Violently drunk on the steamer Katoomba while the vessel was at sea yesj, terdav, two the crew were placed in irons, and to-day handed over to the police at Albury. Evidence at, their subsequent trial was to the effect that when the men— H. Hansen and J. Keith—first became obstreperous, they were confined in the ship’s hospital. They then set out systematically to wre-k the hospital. They smashed the furniture,, tore fittings from walls, and were setting out on further destruction when ship’s officers intervened. They were put in irons and imprisoned on the cattle deck. They were each ordered terms of imprisonment totalling 15 months.
