GIRL ATTACKED
BY A MANIAC.
SYDNEY, May 2,
Marjorie Oberne, aged 16, was struck on the head by a man. in Redman Parade, Belmore, last night, aim later had to have four stitches inserted in a wound in her head.
Her attacker, the police believe, was a maniac.
With in the last month there have been two other cases of women being molested in the Belmore district, although none has previously received an injury.
Miss Oberne told the police that the man 'had folowed her for 200 yards before he attacked her. “When I had gone a little distance from Belmore station I saw him following,’’ she said. “I quickened my pace and his steps became more rapid. Then they ens appeared for a time. “Suddenly I heard a couple of quick steps and received a liolent blow oh the back of the head. The man tnen dashed to the railway cutting and disappeared.”
The girl’s screams were heard by her parents 50 yards away, .as she fell to the ground, blood streaming from a gash in her head. Bet. Sergt. Campbell and Bet. Fraser, of Oampsie, began inquiries, which, they think link up with those of two other cases of women molested.
