The’ annual balance sheet of the Hokitika Savings Bank shows another year of steady support by depositors and a good' average year iii general business. A summary of the. figures shows an increase in both depositors anci amount lodged to credit, while the deposits for the year also exceeded the withdrawals. The interest earned on mortgages increased. While new mortgages were made totalling £lO,--759] the repayments were £8255. The total ~of the mortgage advances now is £88730, and the amount due 2122 depositors is £152,905. In addition to first mortgages on freehold land,* the bank has inscribed, scrip at cost of £26,00S and fixed deposits of £59,700. The. total assets are £178,760, which discloses a surplus of £25,854. During the year the Bank made iree grants, of £760, the chief of which was £650 to the Westland Hospital for till©' X-ray plant. The volume of business done and the sustained interest of depositors, is evidence of the usefulness of the institution to the' patronising public. The ‘ ‘President (Mr G. A.
