SMASH AND GRAB RAID
PERTH, April 29
At the busiest time this afternoon. Central Hay Street was tin scene of the city’s first smash-and-grab raid. /
Shortly before 3 o’clock a small cai draw up, with its engine running, in front of Dunkling's jewellery shop. Immediately afterwards a half brick wag thrown through Dunkling’s window and a tray of diamond rings, valued at £350, was taken and throwi-intothe-car.
A man jumped from the footpath into the rear seat uf the car as it was moving off, and it raced into William Street. , V
As the robber jumped into-the car Alan Thompson, manager of ;,!Thomson's music shop, strove to hold -him but the robber kicked him on the wrist injuring it severely. Other men seized the car hood, bo* were unable to hold the vehicle backThe car, which was the property o’ the Rev J. Henderson, of N.ediands was found later with one of t"he stoler rings on the floor.
