SYDNEY, May 1

An unusual story was. told when James. Egan was charged at the Central Police Court yesterday with having stolen a gold ring and a pound note from Mrs Leila Thompson. It was stated that, as his attentions to Mrs Thompson .were coldly received he took her handbag €0 make her come and reclaim it and thus get an opportunity to. talk to her again. Egan said that he was keeping company with Mrs Thompson, and had received a letter from her commencing “Jill, Darling,” and ending “Leila.” Mrs Thompson admitted this, hut added that Egan knew she was living, with her husband.

Egan was ordered to enter into a bond to be of good behaviour after promising not to press his attentions on Mrs Thompson.
