SATURDAY’S GAMES

There should be additional "interest shown iu Saturday’s games of the Westland Sub-Union competition with the season now fairly opened. On Saturday last the games should haye enabled teams to find their feet, and hands, to some extent, and with good weather conditions now promising the play this week should pro.e attractive.

In the senior contests there will be two games on Cass Square, and both should prove attractive to spectators. The Kiwi team i s set down to meet Cobden. Kiwis are stated to be .much stronger than last- year, while Cobden are expected to show the best form of the teams from the northern portion of the district. The other game is between Excelsiors and Pirates. The Excelsior team had a pipe opener on .Saturday last and gave promise or both forwards and backs. The Pirates had a bye, and as there are many newcomers who have not played together, it is difficult so far to guage the actual strength of the team.

The junior competition games are all played out of tdwn, Kiwi meet Ros s at Ross, "Excelsiors play Arahura, at, Arahura and Pirates meet K*okatajii at Kokatahi. The third grade game .set down is Pirates v. Excelsior at' Woodstock at 2.30 p.m. School and Ross have byes..
