Peter Mathieson, New Zealand backstroke champion, swimming backstroke against free-style swimmers last night, won his heat in the Victorian A grade championship over 200 yards in 2mins 31 l-ssecs, breaking the Victorian records for 150 and 200 yards.
Later, Jarvis (New Zealand), free stvle was defeated in his heat bv Martin.
