(Received this day at 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, December 16. Competing in the State athletic championships, Jack Metcalfe broke the official world’s record for the ho,p. step and jump by 2 3-8 inches, registering 51 feet. 9 3-8 inches. While this .performance breaks the existing world’s record, two Japanese have been credited with better figures, which are not yet recognised. They are Harada, 52 teet, and Oshima 52 feet 6 ins*
