OBITUARY

JOHN J. BREEZE

The death took place on Sunday, ot Mr John J. Breeze, of the Post and Telegraph Department, Masterton, following operation on Thursday last. The deceased who was the eldest son of .the late Mr and Mrs J. ,J. Breeze, of ltevell Street, was a native of Hokitika atnd 55 years of age. Deceased was a popular figure. After service for some years at Hokitika lie was transferred to the North Island and had been stationed at Masterton for twenty years. He leaves a widow (nee Miss Florrie Campbell) two daugnters and. one son, and is survived also by five sisters, Mesdames C. Jacobs, W.' Diedrichs (Hokitika), Griffin (Waiho), Bcrney (Christchurch) and 11. Fisher (Johnsonville) and by five broters.William, Ford, Leo, Sidney and David, all of Hokitika, and a number of cousins.

MOTHER JOSEPHA

The death occurred on Saturday at Westport of the Rev, Mos ter Mary Josepha, of Westport Convent, alter a protracted illness, borne with quiet resignation and Christian fortitude. Mother Mary Josepha was the eldest daughter of Mr R. Nowland, of Gundedah, New South Wales. In early lie, she joined the Convent of Mercy at Singleton, New South Wales. After seven years, she volunteered her services in 1890, for Reefton where a branch of the Order was to be opened. Three years later, in conjunction with the late Mother Mary Regis, she established the Westport Convent, where she spent the remainder of her long, useful and charitable life. At intervals, she held the office of Superior. She sharpcl with the late M.other Mary Regis, the onus and responsibility of building the Convent' and St. Mary’s College at Westport. Besides , the community in which she lived, she leaves three sisters, Sister Mary Aquin (Singleton), Sister Mary Clare (Dunedin) and Mrs H. Hogarth (Sydney), as well as Messrs H. and H. Now lands, brothers. In 1937 the Reverend Mother wpuld have celebrated her golden jubilee of her religious profession.

MR J. H. CLARK

The death occured a,t Christchurch on Friday, of Mr John Henry Clark, mi old and highly-respected resident of the Buller District. Mr Clark worked for a number of years at Denniston and was caretaker at the Westport Trotting Club’s course for a lengthy period. He leaves his wife. The interment will take place at Westport,

/ MR CON SEXTON. The death of Mr Cornelius Francis Sexton took place on Friday evening at his residence Cobden. Deceaed was a native of Westport and 63 vears of ago. He was a well-known member of the Buller rugby team in the .nineties. For the past twenty years lie had been employed as a bridge carpenter by the Railway DepartnvLit. He is survived by Ins wife, three sons, Messrs William '.Nelson), Gordon (Auckland) and Percy Sexton (Cobden), a.nd one daughter, Miss Irene Sexton, (Cobden). There are also three brothers, Messrs John (Rewanui), Phillip (Westport), and William Sexton (Wanganui), and two sisters, Mrs J. Mohan (Wellington) and Miss Mary Sexton (Westport).

The death occurred yesterday after noon of Mrs Eleanor Ann Jordan, widow of the late Canon . Charles Jordan, in her iOOth year. She came to Tauranga with her husband, who was the first vicar of Tauranga, in 1875, and who died in 1912. Mrs. Jordan enjoyed good health until Monday last.

WELLINGTON, Dec. 16

The death has occurred in a private hospital in Wellington of the Hon. George James Anderson, M.L.C., a former Minister of the Crown ,aged 75. He is survived by his wife, four daughters, and one son.
