TARIFF WAR
DANZIG AND POLAND (United Presu Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, August 1.. The “Times’ ”, Danzig'correspondent says : As a result, of a tariff, war with" Poland, a state of emergency has been .proclaimed in. Danzig. Arthur Greiser, president .of the Danzig Senate, lias been given dictatorial powers, and to save the city from starvation, Greiser has proclaimed imports of foodstuffs, coal and other essential commodities henceforth to be free from duty, thus opening the G'erinan-Danzig frontier. The situation arises from a recent Polish refusal to pass through Danzie, unless the duties thereon were collected in Polish currency, resulting in.the complete cessation of the transit tra f* fic on which Danzig depends.
