There are. indications here that America plans to claim the sovereignty of Jarvis, Baker and Howland Island, preparatory to conducting an air service between the United States and the Antipodes. The coastguard cutter Itasca placed four Hawaiian boys on each ol these islands several weeks ago in order to establish American colonies. These islands are claimed by Great Britain, blit they have been unoccupied for decades. The caipps are making hourly weather reports under the direction of the United States Bureau of Air Commerce. ,Mr W. T. Miller, representative of the Bureau of Air Commerce here, de.dines to discuss the sovereignty question, which is certain to lie raisedA schooner is being outfitted now for a South Sea cruise in order to investigate the question of toe airroute to the Antipodes. Her cruise is reported to lie backed by pan-Ameri-can interests. The airman, Harold Gattv. is associated with them, hut he claims that he is here on a vacation. on his way to Australia-
