CONFERENCE AT WELLINGTON WELLINGTON, .June 2“. The New Zealand poultry industry conference was opened by tile Hon. C. E. Macmillan. Mr Hutton, chairman. id the Poultry Board, said the Poultry Producers’ Federation represented some iG.OQO producers as against 2,-!-(k) in the old Association. The conference would be asked to ", bring in rules and regulations to appoint (.Ulcers and manege affairs of puciltrymeu under the jurisdiction of the board. Air A. J. AlacLoine was appointed chairman,’pro tom, and Air J. N- AlcLean similarly secretary. Mr AlacAlillan said the bill bad been passed give the Federation ■ their foundation, and if tliey wanted to widen it in future, the Government would help tnem to do so. New Zealand could export such large quantities of farm produce that there was obviously something wrong with the poultry industry. If it had not lreen for the efforts of enthusiasts New Zealand would have reached the position where eggs woulej have had to be imported to supply the internal demands. Because of that fhe Department had passed legislation to place the industry* on a sound commercial basis. Mr C. J. Rcakes of the Department said the eggs already exported had made a good reputation, and theic was a good start to, build from.
