A petition for commutation of the sentence ol death on Charles William Price for the murder of Evelyn Mary Madden is being forwarded to tire Executive Council, by Mr X. S. Averill and Mr 'l'. E. O’Dowd of Hastings, counsel for defence. Air Avcrill said the whole question of an appeal had been very carefully considered, and both he and Mr O’Dowd had agreed that Price had been given an eminently fair trial.
