FACING FINANCIAL CRISIS LONDON, Afay 27. The Union of .Methodists—tJie world’s largest Protestant sect—is facing a financial crisis, says the “Sunday Dispatch.” The amalgamation of the Wesleyan Primitive Ohrucli and the United Methodists in 1932 resulted in a union of 4,000,00'} adherents representing 20,000 churches, with an income, of £3,500,000 a year. The money has so dwindled since that it is estimated now at £2,700,000. The Methodist Afissionary Society, lacing a deficit of £BO,OOO plan tc withdraw 60 missionaries and doctors from abroad, and to close a number of mission stations, schools and hospitals. Sir Harold Bellman, a member of the Finance Hoard, says he considers that individual members of the United Church are not so likely to realise their responsibilities as when they were members of separate churches.
