WATERLOO BRIDGE
DEMOLITION work progress. LONDON, March 25. It is now more than six months since work on the demolition of Waterloo bridge began, and it is interesting to see the results that lane already I icon achieved in this hca\y and technically difficult task, states a writer in the "Observer.” The whole work of demolition, from, the removal of the topmost stones ot the bridge to the undermost stones ol the piers, is scheduled to take 21 months from last June, when the work of tearing down Rennie’s structure began, so that this graceful piece of architecture will have disappeared foi even in March or April ol next year.
ft will, of course, have disappeared from ordinary sight long Before, as the work of disinterring the lower parts of the piers will take a considerable time. Even before the last stone has been dismantled, work on Sir Gilbert Scott’s new bridge will have begun.
