THE UNMARRIED
bachelors in free STATE The Irish Free State is fast becoming a R*nd -of bachelors and old maids, notes the Dublin correspondent of the MornRig Post. This is the most striking fact which emerges from the Anal volume of the last Census report, which shows that 80 per cent, of the youkg men between the ages of 25 and 30, and 62 per cent of the young woman between the same ages, are unmarried.
■ In Bagand and Wales, the corresponding figures are 42 per cent for man and 41 per cent for women. That the Free State has a long lead over the rest of the uiorld in this respect is showh by the fact that Sweden, the country. which nearest approaches its state of bachelor bliss, has hut 64 per cent of its young men within the same age group unmarried. Northern Ireland has 62, Belgium 49 and-the. United States 39.
The figur-es a r c causing some concern, and United Ireland, the organ pi' the Free - State Opposition, urges the establishment of a scheme of family allowances to on-courage earlier marriages.
