PAKAPOO RAIDS. (Per Pres? Association. —Copyright.) AUCKLAND, March 29. Simultaneous raids were carried out by the police to-night on four premises in the city where it was alleged that pakapoo games were being played. The raids were carried out swiftly and without excitement. Within a few minutes seven Chinese and twenty-seven European had been arrested. No resistance was made to the entrance of the police. When tho. police vans arrived outside of the premises, large crowds gathered, but there was no disorder.
LABOUR DELEGATE. WELLINGTON, March 30. TEACHER ACQUITTED. BLENHEIM, March 29. At the Supreme Court to-day the second trial of George Walker, formerly tlie schoolmaster at Havelock, on twelve charges of indecency, was concluded. The jury returned a verdict of notguilty. Prisoner was remanded till the next sessions on three other counts which have not yet been commenced. MINER KILLED. INVERCARGILL, March 29. William BaHantyno, a miner, 30, employed in the Linton Company’s mine at Ohai, was caught by a fall of coal yesterday afternoon, and suffered extensive crushing an ( ] a fracture of Fie spine. He was admitted to the Riverton Hospill, and died this morning. Deceased was married with three young children.
