Eor making a false entry in wages and time books, Rene Gerondis, proprietor of a M’illis Street cafe, was fined £ls by .Mr E. Page. S-M., who said that the -entry was a wilfully false one. setting at nought the whole purpose of tile statute. Inspector .T. Goorgeson, of the Labour Department, said that the defendant had entered in the wages book that- a waitress was receiving 30s a week, whereas she was actually receiving only 16s. Mr Stephenson, for Gerondis. said tli ’t under the provisions of the new award the girl, who was ( mployed as a probationer, would have lost her position, but she had persuaded Mrs Gerondis to keep her on at a smaller sainry. Mr Goorgeson said that collusion between the workers and the employers added to tlk*- difficulties of the inspectors.
