POLICE SEARCH
FOR ARMED MAN
CORDON DRAWN NEAR SYDNEY

Nearly 40 police, drawn from the northern suburbs of Sydney, searched dense bush near Seaforth for more than fiv e hoars at night for a man who was alleged to be armed with a revolver. The police dog Toss was used in the search and all roads and bridges in the district were guarded. Motorists entering and leaving the district were stopped and questioned. A Seaforth householder telephoned the Manly policy and told a strange story. He said that a young man, an occupant of his house, had been behaving strangely, and had produced a revolver. He had left the house, and had later returned, clad only in trousers and singlet, with a dark stain on the singlet, which the householder thought was blood. When a threat was made that the police would be. informed the householder continued, the young man rushed into the bush.
A police cordon was rapidly organised, and a search began. About 8 p.m. a constable found a young man wandering through the hush barefooted. He attempted to overpower him, but the man who was strongly built, .struggled fiercely and eventually broke away. The police allege he dropped a fully loaded revolver as he was running away. Subsequently, the police learned that the man whom they sought had evaded their cordon. They entered a house and arrested a man whom they found in one of the bedrooms. Subsequently a man was charged with haring had an unlicensed revolver in his possession, and with having assaulted a constable-
