CROQUET CLUB’S DISPLAY

The Hokitika Croquet Club have ev'Ty reason to feel pleased with their flower show held in the Soldiers’ Hall yesterday, and the standard of the display was favourably commented on by the farei? attendance in the afternoon and evening. The show was opened bv the 'Mayor (Mr G. -A. Perry), and presented a glorious display of summer blooms which attracted admiration. A distinctive feature of the show was Ihe decorated table section which drew twenty-five entries.

l’toints ‘aggregates resulted as follow in the respective sections: — Cut flowers, F. SGby ; decorative, Mrs Ashley : vegetables, Mrs H. Fitzgerald. Mr Selby becomes the holder of the Coulson challenge cup presented for this section.

The judges were as follow : Flowers Msr Fair had (Qreynwnith); decorative, Mrs Bush (Greymouth) ; vegetables, Mr Boddington (Koitcrangi).

The Show was open to the public again this morning, and will continue until 4.30 o’clock this afternoon

A promenade entertainment was held last evening, proving very eniovnblp. The chief feature was a flower ballet, arranged and directed by Miss A. Ashley, the following taking nart: —Rose, X. Fade ; violet, A. Barrett : bluebell. AFurness; daisy. V. Ward; carnation, J. Ward ; icelaud poppy, V. Chetwynd ; fairy. X. Eggling; pixie. P. Thomas. Other items were contributed by the following:— Pianoforte solo. 'Mrs Jordan ; Irish jig. J. Ward ; Sailor’s hornpipe, A. Ashley, barefoot, dance, XD a rby : tan dance, A. Ash’ev ; acrobatic dance, X. Darby, duet Misses A. and C. Lynn.
