Among the judges appointed for the National Fire Brigades’ Demonstration, to be held in Blenheim, are Doputy-Superiutendaiit A. White (Greymoutli), and Foremen F. McGregor and J. J. Williams (Hokitika). Eighty-Jive brigades will he competing.
Mr R. A. Wright, M.P., of Wellington will he visiting Hokitika on Sunday. The visitor is a native of this district, and •during his young manhood served Id's (time in the ‘ West Coast Times” office. Mr Wright, who for many years .has been an active member of the Church of Christ, will address both morning and evening services at the Stafford Street Church on Sunday in the absence from the district of Pastor A. W. Grundy.

The monthly meeting of tbe Rimu, Woodstock and Kauiei-i Women’s institute, took place in Woodstock Hall. Mrs Howat presided over a large attendance of members. It was decided to hold the W. 1. picnic in Greymoutli on February Kith. The motor competition was won bv Mrs J. O’Connor with Miss Elsie Stoop second. A dainty supper, served by the hostesses, Mesdaines E. Stoop and E. Wells, and Miss Elsie Stoop brought ‘a very pleasant evening to a close.
An accident- occurred to Mr J. C. Mercer’s plane when taking off from \»eheka yesterday afternoon. With two passengers on board, the plane was moving off when, a bullock ran out of a clump of trees and charged the machine, causing it to turn over. The occupants escaped with minor injuries, but structural damage was sustained hv the plane, which is lieing brought up to Hokitika for repairs. Mr Mercer is arranging for the temporary use of another machine to enable him to carry out liis schedule mail service. One of the passengers, Mr Conradson, I’.W.D. officer in South Westland, sustained a cut sealp ) and cracked lower jaw, and received medical attention by Dr. A. Jenkins, at Wataroa, before being brought up to in Westland Hospital. The plane sustained a damaged wing and undercarriage.

.The State Mine excursion picnic train arrived this morning, a. large number taking part. Cass Square was made the headquarters, where hot water etc. was provided. The weather is perfect for the outing.
