THAMES LEVEL

TO BE INCREASED BY DAMMING

(United Press Association-By Electric Telegraph—Copyright}.

LONDON, January 23

The Port of London Authority will shortly decide with regards to two schemes of damming the Thames, one at Woolwich, costing £3,000,000, and the other at London Bridge, costing £BOO,OOO. The purpose is that of keeping the water at a constant level.

Dir J. Bunge, the engineer responsible for the projects, states that the. London Bridge scheme would give nineteen mile s of still water between London Bridge and Tcddington, and increase the width of tile water available for navigation. Fie suggests that portion of the- increased fair why could be used for an air port in the heart of London.

The Wcolwijch scheme would give the river a constant level of seventeen feet above the present low water mark and four feet below the high water mark thus enabling all tile craft now using the older docks and wharves to enter the river at low tide while all sea-going craft would remain waterborne while in London unloading.
