TANKER ON FIRE
IN NO IMMEDIATE DANCER VESSELS STANDING BY (Per British Official Wireless.) (Received this day at 1.30 p.ni.) RUGBY. January 22. A message received to-day bv • the Glasgow owners of the British tanke*, Yalverdia, which is cm lire in the Atlantic, stated that the fire is now confined to the refrigerator, and the vessel is in no immediate danger. Tlie third engineer, Mr Taylor, succumbed to injuries. AH the others are safe. The engines are completely disable! and the officers and crew hist night were anxiously awaiting assistance m response to wireless uaHs. A small French vessel, Petite teiie, reported she was standing by late last night. Meanwhile the British cruiser, Frobisher and the net-layer Guardian were approaching tlio Valverda.
Tup Admiralty has received a message from the Frobisher that *ho intended taking the Valverda in tow at daybreak this morning, although the weather then was unpropitious.
