A BIG SHARK

THREE-HOUR FIGHT ENSUES

TAURANGA, Jan. 21

A fight for three hours with an enormous thyesher shark was the experience of the llou.. -P. J. Clifford, of Melbourne, while fishing from a launch off Mayor Island. The shark wa s hooked at noon and immediately sounded, over 400 yards of line being run out on the occasion. About 2.30 the shnik rose to the surface and threshed the sea wildly. Three times in the concluding stages the shark again sounded, and when eventually manoeuvred alongside the launch it repeatedly lashed the boat with its tail before it was harpooned and killed. The shark was brought over to Tauranga and it weighed 644 lb. Its length was 14ft., the tail beiig 7ft. Its maximum girth was 4ft 7in.
