GANDHI’S VILLAGE SCHEME

(United Press Association—By Electric ! Telegraph—Copyright.) DELHI, January 22. Forty-three newlv-elocted Congressmen entered the Indian Legislative Assembly, and occupied Opposition benches at the opening session. They immediately challenged . the Government by moving the adjournment, when Satyoniurti attacked the Home Department over a letter it had addressed to, the provincial Governments, disclosing the Department’s speculations regarding politiol potentialities of Gandhi’s Village Industries’ Association.

Sir Henry, defending the Department, said these letters were tentative. They did not contain orders, 'a'nd they were confidential. Nevertheless they had been published in the extremist newspapers, after having been either “stolen or sold.” Sir Henry quoted Congressmen’s speeches to support the Government’s contention that the Village Industries’ Association aimed at a revolution through the villages. He added that if tlie departments showed that his fear was baseless, lie would be willing to co-operate in Mr Gandhi’s work. The House -cheered the statement, and talked out the motion.

Contrary to the previous announcement the ruler of Patiala lias accepted the Chancellorship of the Chamber of Princes, in view of proposed reforms and reorganisations in the Chamber. The Bikanir ruler agreed to become a committeeman.
