RUGBY, January 14. A big advance during 1934 in heavy industry was revealed by the director of the British Iron and Steel Federation, Sir W r iliiam Larke. Steel production totalled approximately nine million tons representing an increase of tiiirtv per cent, over 1933; pig iron was six million tons, an increase of thirty-five per cent. British exports of' iron and steel were proportionablelv higbed rising from 1,920,000 to 2,250,000 tons. Employment on blast furnaces iron and steel rolling tube manufacture, and general engineering also improved, notably in recently months.
