RAILWAY TESTS
OF ALL STEER CARS
(United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.)
LONDON, January 12
“The British railway companies have abandoned the principle of the all-steel coach,” says the “Morning Post.” It lias been tried and tested on the main railway system, and the conclusion reached is that an impact at a high speed involves greater risks to the occupants than do other methods of construction. The normal result of a collision with all-steel trains is that the coaches are scattered • into a star formation, owing to their unyielding nature. It' is considered that the /'resent method of building i s more satisfactory. • The new rolling stock will bn (constructed on heavy steel undorfremes, the bodies being equipped with steel ends and steel panels, mi a timber framing, with stool roofs. Nevertheless .experiments are being made constantly.”
