“Peace dawned with the New Year,” were the first words of M. Flaudin m 'a speech at a banquet at the Alliance Repuhlicaine Democratique. He added that the Rome agreements and the London conversations only aim at consolidation thereof. He outlined the Government’s plans to fight unemployment and restore business, including the adoption of production to consumption reduction of the rate of interest, in order to restore credit which would satisfy the Treasury’s needs, without depreciating tbe market price of existing loans, and the increasing of longterm interest, moreover, would not necessitate inflation.

He also promised reform of the magistracy, whereby judges would be freed from political influence. He forecasted the creation of the post o*f In-spector-General, who would supervise appointments and promotions. H e added:—“l shall not weaken in my determination for reform without regard lor myself as a member of the Club of Rotary Premiers.
