THREE FATALITIES
ENGLISH SOCCER PLAYERS.
ALL IN ONE AFTERNOON. LONDON, January 9. ' Three Association football players were recently killed in English football matches—all in oiio afternoon. Two oi them died after colliding with other players in heading tlu> ball. The victims were:—B. Raleigh, 24, the Gillingham centre-forward, a native ol Rotherham; William Thomas .Marshall, centre-forward, Marion Reserve, Forest of Dean League; Ronald Griffiths, 21, of Tunstall Road Addiscombe. Raleigh died after the football League match with Brighton and Hove Albion at Gillingham. The heads of Raleigh and another player came together in a simultaneous attempt to head the hull. Ranleigh played until well through the second half, but, after heading the ball lie fell unconscious. lie was taken to hospital and operated on, but never recovered consciousness.
Marshall was playing against Coalway Reserve at Berry Hill Crow Ash, and in heading the ball collided witli an opponent. He collapsed and died while being taken to a local lioter. Ho was a married man with two children.
Griffiths was struck on the body by the ball while playing in a mutch at Duppas Hill, Croydon. He fell unconscious and died in Croydon Genera) Hospital.
