COMPENSATION FOR, RUM

WASHINGTON, January 9,
The American-Canadian Arbitration Commission decided to-day that the United States should apologise for the sinking of tlve rum vessel “I’m Alone” as reported on April 9. 1929, land should pay Canada 25,000 dollars as compensation.
Candela* has claimed 383,00!) dollar ■ in the Supreme Court, over which Mr Justice Vandoventer \U.S. A.) and Chief Justice Reed (Canada) presided. The Commission lias further decided that no compensation should be allowed to t/:e owners of the “I’m Alone” for either the ship or the cargo. The master and the crew were not found guilty of smuggling. Therefore they are ordered to be paid comnensation for their clothing and effects and for imprisonment. The crew of the “I’m Alone” will receive 25,666 dollar* a a their compensation.
