At a meeting of the Toowoomba Eire Brigade Board it. was resolved to lorward an adequate apology to tbe Duke of Gloucester, regarding the smoking incident: at the Toowoomba Ball, "when a fireman naked his Royal Highness To put out his cigarette, it was officially explained that the firemen had orders not to permit smoking in the hall.

SYDNEY, December 9

Doctors at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital removed a two-inch needle from the heart of a two-vear-old child. The needle had pierced the child’s chest in a fall, and had not only penetrated an inch into the heart, but was actually pulsating under the skin to its action. The child was apparently little th c . worse for the accident.
