Lambs and sheep sold at firm rates to-day, at Addington. Cattle and pigs were cheaper. Over one thousand fat lambs were offered. The quality was below standard, but some pens we v e of prime quality. The freezers’ fand butcbei s combined competition created a firm demand, rates being well up to those of last sale. Best heavy lambs sold to 26s 4d, prime 22s 6d to 23s 9d, medium 20s to 21s fid, light from 18s. Just over four thousand fa£ sheep wore (yarded. Wethers were selling consistently rohnd 23s per head. Heavier butchers’ sorts were slightly higher. Ewes were firm for medium weights. For heavy stuff the demand was less keen.

The store sheep comprised nfostly wethers. There was a good sound sale, owing to the abundance of pasture. Over 400 head of beef were offered. Owing to the continued hot weather, butchers are finding difficulty in disposing of supplies. Consequently today’s purchases were limited. Values were easier all round. Quotation’s per hundred pounds were as follows: Best prime handy weights 25s to 275, heavy 20s to 23s 6d, medium 19s to 21s; best heifers to 245, medium 21s to 235, light from 18s ; best cows to 21s, medium 17s to 19s, plain from 12s.

There was a large" offering of fat pigs. The demand was consistent to iliinit, with tin qasing tendency, aspecially for heavy weights. Porkers fetched 33s to 365, heavier to 44s 6d the average price being sj-d to oifd per H). Light lmconers fetched 48s 6d to 54s 6d, heavy 58s 6d to £3 2s 6d, extra to £3 5s 6d ; average price 5d to o l per lb. Choppers sold from 25s to 15s. Store pigs were easier.
