SPEED ATTEMPT

SIR M. CAMPBELL’S PLAN

DEMONSTRATION OF BRAKES

(United Press Association —By Electric

Telegraph—Copyright)^

LONDON, Ijlbyember 11.. “Sporting Life” says: Sir Malcolm Campbell plans to risk . (his life on! January 19 or February 18 op Daytona Beach in proving that racing cap brakes are wrong. His new “Blue, bird,” now being built at Brooklands, employs wind breaks, whereby, when travelling at 300 miles an hour, Campbell will pull ,a lever, sliding out fins at the sides, when the wind pressure will have the .effect of stopping the car.

Ordinary brakes would melt if applied at a speed of over 200 miles an hour, which fact has prevented Campbell from achieving 300 miles ar hour , because Daytona Beach is too short, necessitating earlier deceleration. The new car also employs twin rear wheels, life those of a lo’’ry, these being enclosed within the body, and thus avoiding wheel spin, and also enabling the car to reach its maximum speed earlier. The same engine is being retained.
