'CHRISTCHURCH, Sepjr^nfer, 2§v; A. fine of. £SO/.in defaMllllßChionths’ goal’ was imposed by his honour (Justice Johnston) at the Supreme Court, on Trevor Lyall Evans, a youthful grocer’s assistant who committed a serious assault with a stick on' the manager of a rival grocery establishment in Beckenham. Counsel said robbery 'was not the motive. Evans had been meeting keen competition from the Self Help store, and he had brooded on this a nd other matters. It was partly his intention of retaliation that he visited the Sell Help store. He took a stick with him but covered it with rubber, so tnat he would do the man no lasting harm.
