MR SOPWITH
IS DISILLUSIONED BEST BOAT IN THE WORLD. (United BrePs Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright). (Received this day at 9.45 a.in.) BRISTOL, (Rhode Island), Sept. 27. “I am, not heartbroken, because I did not win, but I am disgusted at the spirit in which international racing is conducted here,” Mr Sopwith declared to-day. “I do not feel vindictive at my treatment at the hands of the New York Yacht Club, but do feel completely disillusioned.” Mr -Sopwith declared that he came to .the United State s for the good of the sport, but found the races were “run as a big business, something I was not, prepared to contend with.” ■Mr.Sopwith said he was fully aware of the mistakes he had made -during the contests, and of t-he 'last race -he said: “My tactics were all wrong. All the errors made aboard the Endeavour from tfhe beginning to the end were mine. The, people of Gosford had built the be«st boat in the world.” Mr Sopwith praised all the members of the crew. Although he stated emphatically after the final race that he would not challenge again, he was still in a fighting mood and now prefers to leave the question open. He declared he would not s ell the Endeavour, but ’would race- her in England.
