WORLD’S BIGGEST ELECTION
LONDON, August 2
Forty-nine; countries aro to take part in an'election shortly for the 'office of president of the Theosophical Societies of the World. The late Dr. \nnio Besant was the former president. Tho voting list will contain hunIreds of thousands of names. Never before has there been an election on so grand a scale. After all he votes have been received from England and Wales, America, India, Burma, and Abe countries between, the final election will take place at Adyar n the sun-kissed country of Madras, where the society’s headquarters are. There are two candidates. Dr. George Sydney Arundale, M.A., Bishop of the Liberal Catholic Church, and Professor Ernest W°°d, of Manchester. Dr Arundale took his B.A. at iSt. John’s College, Cambridge, in 1898, and bis M.A. in 1902. In 1903 he was invited by Dr Besant to become principal of the boys’ school of the Central Hindu College. He fostered the Boy Scout movement in India and became Chief Scout there.
Professor Wood, wlulls 50, has also been connected with theosophy all his life. The results of the English tlieosophists’ voting are already known. Dr Arundale received 1328 votes and Professor Wood 822. In Wales 107 voted for Dr Arundale and 59 for Professor Wood.
